A “side” is a term, primarily used in queer culture, for individuals who prefer non-penetrative sexual acts over anal sex. Instead of top/bottom roles, sides focus on intimacy through oral sex, manual stimulation, kissing, cuddling, and mutual pleasure, sometimes referred to as “outercourse”.

Definition & Origin: Coined to challenge the binary (top/bottom) in gay male culture, it describes someone who finds fulfillment without penetrative sex.
Sexual Activities: Common activities include body rubbing, oral stimulation, manual stimulation, and, for some, the use of sex toys without penetration.
Reasons & Diversity: People identify as sides for many reasons, including avoiding prep, physical health issues, anxiety, or simply lack of interest in penetration.
Misconceptions: Being a “side” does not imply a lack of intimacy, a lower libido, or being a “prude”. It is simply a preference for different, highly intimate sexual acts.
